Cake Control!

Today I am joining in with two new poetry linkys -
where Sara gives a prompt on Sunday and then opens her linky party on a Friday for submissions on that theme - head over there to see what this week's was!

and also:
Where Victoria happily gives everyone a place where they can share their latest pieces. Reading through some of the others' poetry and rhymes who have linked up there are some new to me wonderful writers out there who I am sure I will be following in the future :)  So go and check them out or even better join in!

Here's my submission - and as always I'd love a little feedback!

"Would you like some cake?
Freshly baked
Lemon drizzle
or perhaps a slice of chocolate?
Let me pass it to you.
Made by Margery.
Here's your coffee."

And it looks SO good
And it looks SO moist
And it looks JUST right

But ... I have to refuse.
I must not be tempted.
I must be impolite and say No!
Inside I am mortified
Yet also there's something else
A flicker of delight,
Of resolution,
I am stronger than I thought.
My goodness,
I possess -
self-control!

"Well if you're being good,"
continues my host
"Then let me get you a box
and choose something for ..
your husband instead."

I leave clutching cake
Feeling good.

  1. I love your poem, though it's really made me crave cake now. I'm not sure my self-control is that good!

    1. I don't think you need to have self-control on cake at the moment with all the walking you're doing!! Hope your holiday was wonderful :)

  2. Oh, I love this! Very cleverly written, and the ending is wonderful (will the self-control last...!?!) ;) My self-control is definitely not that good! Wonderful to have you join in with #ThePrompt!

    1. Thank you Carolyn - I suppose I should have tried to write it in a Dr. Seuss style to join in with your theme!

  8. Thanks for stopping by last month. I am finally getting back to you. Self-control, that takes some effort! SOmething I read, that if you give one group of people a little bite of chocolate and then they have the will power to resist a huge plate of brownies. But the 2nd group didn't get the little bit of chocolate and they could not resist the brownies later... Hmmm. Courtney - Maui Jungalow.

    1. Unfortunately for me, I am too much of a chocolate addict and one little taste would have made me devour the whole plate of chocolate brownies too!!

    1. I need to keep working on my self-control but my recent upturn in watching carefully what I eat and having a bit more self-control is paying dividends so I MUST keep it up!!
