H is for Helpful Hugs

Hugs heal hurts and harm
Hugs hide hopelessness and horror
Hugs herald heroic heights
Hugs help

It suddenly struck me as H is for Hugs came to mind for today's letter and I wrote this poem that I might have used this before in a previous A - Z Challenge and lo and behold I did - Last Year!!  A different poem but all the same sentiment that Hugs are an important part of being a teacher who children can turn to when they are in trouble, when they are hurt or when they are so full of joy they simply want to share it with you.

I have seen my own 10 year old child run into the outstretched arms of her headmaster to share her absolute joy when overcoming a sports day catastrophe - my heart still wells up when I recall this moment - what a wonderful headteacher he was :)  And in my classrooms hugs were always received kindly or given when needed as the last line says - Hugs Help!

Now it's your turn - tell me when you last received or gave a hug?  Do you think you are a "huggy" type of person?  I'd love to know so leave a comment below :)

  1. I'm so huggy I put my grown children to shame! I've hugged sales assistants and planted a kiss on my driving instructor's cheek when he passed me:)
When I worked as a primary school teacher, hugs were given and received whenever our hearts desired: the children or mine.
Thank you for finding me in this A to Z maze. Hugs to you.

  2. Pempi, I gave DH a hug this morning and he gave me one in return. We start our day off with XOXO. I wouldn't call myself a huggy type. I don't feel the need to give every person I meet a hug and I certainly don't want a hug from every one. I like to give real hugs to those who are the closest to me but I enjoy giving virtual hugs & kisses to all of my sweet friends. (:)\/<

    1. Yes - I agree it would make things a little time consuming if we hugged everyone we met!! But a hug in the morning sounds like a good way to start the day :)

  3. My husband and I hug every day, and it would be hard for me to live without a hug. Both of us also like to have heavy weights on us - for example, heavy blankets. I can't even sleep in the summer without a blanket weighing on me. The Unknown Journey ahead agingonthespectrum.blogspot.com

    1. Yes I also like a heavy blanket on me when I go to sleep - hadn't connected it to being like a hug before but I know where you're coming from :)

  4. A hug is welcome. I have friend hugs, family hugs, and husband hugs. I am glad if teachers recognize a kid needs a hug.
