Today I am joining in with two new poetry linkys -
where Sara gives a prompt on Sunday and then opens her linky party on a Friday for submissions on that theme - head over there to see what this week's was!
Where Victoria happily gives everyone a place where they can share their latest pieces. Reading through some of the others' poetry and rhymes who have linked up there are some new to me wonderful writers out there who I am sure I will be following in the future :) So go and check them out or even better join in!
Here's my submission - and as always I'd love a little feedback!
"Would you like some cake?
or perhaps a slice of chocolate?
Let me pass it to you.
Made by Margery.
Here's your coffee."
And it looks SO good
And it looks SO moist
And it looks JUST right
But ... I have to refuse.
I must not be tempted.
I must be impolite and say No!
Inside I am mortified
Yet also there's something else
A flicker of delight,
I am stronger than I thought.
I possess -
"Well if you're being good,"
continues my host
"Then let me get you a box
and choose something for ..
your husband instead."
I leave clutching cake
I love your poem, though it's really made me crave cake now. I'm not sure my self-control is that good!ReplyDelete
I don't think you need to have self-control on cake at the moment with all the walking you're doing!! Hope your holiday was wonderful :)Delete
Oh, I love this! Very cleverly written, and the ending is wonderful (will the self-control last...!?!) ;) My self-control is definitely not that good! Wonderful to have you join in with #ThePrompt!ReplyDelete
Thank you, Sara and I thought what a great prompt it was as it inspired such different reactions and concepts from us all!Delete
That's brilliant!!! I now feel like I want to know if you managed to resist the cake or not???XxReplyDelete
Yes I really did, Kezzie - my husband declared it delicious but I did not have any!ReplyDelete
I love the poem! You are really good at this. Sadly I am now craving cake, you killed me with the lemon drizzle. :DReplyDelete
Whoops - sorry, Julie :)Delete
OH I LOVE your poem! It's great! And I could just feel how you felt. Thanks for sharing that! Have a great week.ReplyDelete
Thank you Carolyn - I suppose I should have tried to write it in a Dr. Seuss style to join in with your theme!Delete
Oh, so wonderful! A story in a poem and a great take on the theme of 'control'. Bravo!ReplyDelete
Thank you for visiting and I'm so pleased you liked it :)Delete
Thanks for stopping by last month. I am finally getting back to you. Self-control, that takes some effort! SOmething I read, that if you give one group of people a little bite of chocolate and then they have the will power to resist a huge plate of brownies. But the 2nd group didn't get the little bit of chocolate and they could not resist the brownies later... Hmmm. Courtney - Maui Jungalow.ReplyDelete
Unfortunately for me, I am too much of a chocolate addict and one little taste would have made me devour the whole plate of chocolate brownies too!!Delete
I'm impressed by both your self control and your poem! really fancy some cake now... prose4t xReplyDelete
Thank you, Maddy :)Delete
I love how this flows and moulds together - self-control is a wonderful thing when you can find it!! I just wanted to say thank you so much for linking up to Prose for Thought and I hope to see you again this Thursday when my linky returns :)ReplyDelete
Thanks for stopping by, Victoria and I am sure I will be linking up again in the near future :)Delete
Great poem! I'm in certain need of self control & can never turn down cake :)ReplyDelete
I need to keep working on my self-control but my recent upturn in watching carefully what I eat and having a bit more self-control is paying dividends so I MUST keep it up!!Delete
