Cooking on Gas Vintage Style!

I had a lovely taste of nostalgia when I saw all of these old gas cookers - vintage or what??  I can remember we used to have one similar to the one above when I was really young with a warming drawer at the bottom.

What can you remember about your kitchen when you were a child?

  1. I remember seeing that bottom one in people's houses when I was younger.

I love our nice and modern cooker though, all the ones in this post look like they might be tricky to keep clean when there are spills or things bubble over! ;-)

    1. Yes and they look a touch rickety as well - not as solid as today's I think!

  2. The second photo looks a lot like the gas range my grandmother had. I always loved the cabinets that my father designed and built himself. My dad passed away in February. The cabinets are exactly the same! I visited my stepmother recently and smiled. Have a great week!

    1. I think that's why I liked this exhibition so much - it transported me back to the past so vividly :)

  3. I remember an old fashioned range but then a gas cooker just like the bottom one took its place and it's still there.
    Have a great week :)

    1. My grandma had a Rayburn and I loved making toast with a piece of bread hanging off the toasting fork over the open fire. I think gas ovens were seen as much safer and cleaner!

  6. I remember warming trays, we have a small bus that's converted into a camper and the kitchen is from a 70's caravan so we cook on a vintage gas hob... in the house I had an electric cooker put in when we were renting it out as it was easier with tenants, however now we're living back in it when this cooker goes I think I'm going back to a gas hob and electric oven!

    1. p.s. I much prefer the grill at eye level height, I know it's not very H&S conscious unless you're just making toast... but much easier for toast making as you can see what's happening!!
