Five for Friday Ghostly Freebie

This week I have not had time to post anything as suddenly everything is coming at once and I've been up to my eyeballs in work so it's not much of a Friday Five but here goes!

Join in the fun over at Doodle Bugs Teaching by clicking the button above

First - these little ghostly numbers - with thanks to Cara from Creative Playground for the Mrs Monster numeral font :)

DD goes to Australia in less than two weeks so we have been sorting all last minute paperwork, banking, phones, luggage locks, travel adapters etc because I know it will all be MY fault if something gets forgotten!!  I just keep on feeling I'm going to burst into tears at any moment when I stop to think she really is going - I don't know how I'm going to cope with the worry :(

Did a flying visit to my parents in the north so she could say goodbye as they won't be seeing her for the next 8 months and took in a bit of shopping and sightseeing in the city of York.  We decided against having tea at Betty's as the waiting line outside was too long!

This weekend she will be going to visit her other set of grandparents at the opposite end of the country.

I have been taking the opportunity as the weather has been patchy to start to go through years of teaching files as I now do not need to have all subjects kept as I will not be returning to the life of a full scale classroom teacher - this too is a little difficult to get my head around but as I am now concentrating on special needs I know this will be my area of interest from now on so goodbye to many of my geography specialist resources and files!  The sad truth is there is little point in passing these on to anyone else at school as I know they have so little time and inclination to actually do anything with them or plan other lessons except those they already have for their classes so it's into the recycling bin they will be going and books & CD Roms to the charity shop.

And finally a little freebie the rest of these ghostly numbers to 10 for anyone else who would like them :)

Have a great weekend!

  1. She will be fine and have the time of her life:) My friends have just gone through the same process with their daughter heading to NZ for a year - it must be terrifying but all will be well.

York is my favourite city in the world ... except you need a mortgage to go out shopping, there's so many interesting wee shops. Had to put my head in a vice to stop me looking left or right the last time we were there :)

    1. Thanks, Fil for your words of solace and yes York is expensive but some of the items you find there are wonderful and unique so I think are worth it :)

  3. It is definitely sad when they leave. But for me, it has been a few years now, and I am loving my new freedom, as long as I have frequent contact and know that both of my children are OK. And I can relate to the purging of materials. I have always taught all kinds of special ed, from mild to profound, as well as taught all subjects. But last year I decided that I was only going to focus on moderate to profound, and to collect more online resources, and had to get rid of a ton of stuff. It felt great and I had so much more space. Good luck with your daughter's adventure!

    1. Thanks for your words of wisdom and experience, Jannike - yes I think I will like to be able to do my own thing when I want, how I want, without compromising children (only the husband to put into the equation!) but it is so nice to have that youthfulness in the house and be needed as a mum so I am daunted by that part :(

  4. Don't blame you for feeling anxious about waving off your daughter. It's an exciting and scary time for you.

As for your lesson plans, is there a local university or college you could offer them to? I know at my university we had a resource centre where there were folders with lesson plans in them that past students had put together, otherwise perhaps a student teacher Facebook group you could advertise them to.

You must've put a lot of work into them and I'm sure that would be useful for someone. Would be a shame for them to go to waste.

    1. A really good idea about what your uni does but my local one does not have that facility and I know that with the new curriculum things I have done in the past are no longer relevant as well as the amazing amount that can be downloaded off the internet (I have had the odd chuckle looking back at my first computer resources - they seem so naive compared to today!!)
